The study investigated poor reading habits and academic performance of undergraduates of library and information science Modibbo Adama University, Yola, Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive research design. The population consisted of 524 undergraduate students Random sampling technique was used in selecting 170 students as the population of the study. The research instrument used for this study was a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics mean of standard deviation was employed as a method of data analysis. The findings of the study among others revealed that; good reading habit can assist in improving the academic performance of undergraduate students; that the causes of poor reading habits were lack of time, conducive environment, a busy academic schedule and use of social media among the students. The study concludes that undergraduate students with effective reading practices not only exhibit improved academic performance but also benefit from enhanced knowledge acquisition, refined communication and writing skills, heightened concentration, and improved memory. The study recommended among others that the university management should invest in creating quiet, well-equipped spaces for students’ reading.
