Position Paper on Farm Input Subsidy Programme in Malawi

The Farm Input Subsidy Program (FISP) was introduced in Malawi in 2005 as a response to recurring food shortages and aims to improve food security by providing smallholder farmers with access to essential agricultural inputs such as fertilizers and seeds. By supporting vulnerable farmers the program targets resource-poor smallholder farmers, with a focus on vulnerable groups, ensuring they receive the necessary inputs to improve their agricultural output. This paper examines FISP and AIP, its background and history, how it was implemented in Malawi, how it address poverty and livelihood issues and it also highlighting their benefits and challenges as well as recommendations.
