Practice and Challenges of Humanitarian Logistics: The Case of Catholic Relief Service (Crs) In Dire Dawa

Humanitarian organizations play a crucial role in delivering life-saving aid during disasters and emergencies. Effective humanitarian logistics is essential for ensuring timely and efficient delivery of aid to those in need. This study focuses on the practice and challenges of humanitarian logistics within the context of Catholic Relief Service (CRS) response operations in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia. The research aims to analyze the relationships between the dependent variable, humanitarian logistics, and several independent variables, including inventory management, warehouse management, transportation management, and information flow. The study employs a quantitative descriptive research methodologies. Quantitative data were gathered through surveys and structured questionnaires distributed among CRS personnel and partner organizations. The study population is an entire group of individuals, events or objects having common observable characteristics. The sample size is 133 respondents drawn from CRS response in Dire Dawa regional program area offices and humanitarian relief distribution workers from the emergency sites. The researcher use census sampling methods and use questionnaires to collect data. The data collection procedure involve distributing and collecting filled questionnaires from the sample respondents. The Pearson correlation method used for both analyses. Following collection, the data examine with the aid of tables and figures. The research assess the current practices and strategies employed by CRS in humanitarian logistics within the context of Dire Dawa. The study also investigate the extent to which inventory management, warehouse management, transportation management, and information flow impact the effectiveness of humanitarian logistics operations. By examining these variables, the research provides a comprehensive overview of the challenges faced by CRS in the region. The findings of this study contribute to the broader field of humanitarian logistics and can inform policy and practice improvements within CRS and other humanitarian organizations. Understanding the intricacies of logistics in Dire Dawa help CRS and similar organizations enhance their response strategies and ultimately improve their ability to provide timely and effective aid to vulnerable populations during crises.
