Predicting Wellbeing with Self Regard and Social Regard in sub-Saharan Africa and U.S.

In this project, we examined the associations between self regard and social regard to life satisfaction in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and U.S. We examined both within culture patterns (e.g., in SSA, does social regard predict life satisfaction better than does self regard?) and between culture patterns (e.g., does social regard predict life satisfaction better in SSA than it is in U.S.?). We examined within culture patterns via exploratory elastic net models and between culture patterns with confirmatory SEM.
