This recording was taken for the purposes of phonetic analysis of initial consonant clusters and concomitant epenthetic or excrescent vowels. The speaker is our principal consultant, Dismas Potul, reading words we chose from the dictionary that begin with consonant clusters. In most cases Dismas pronounces only the verb in the phrase, since that was the part that we were most interested in. We realized only later how unnatural this was, and how this might find some reflection in the pronunciation, but the recordings are still useful for observing the phenomenon of consonant clusters. Dismas was born just after WWII. He was educated to high school level and became a teacher, and eventually a school principal.
