Protocol for a Scoping Review on Health Effects of Air Pollution in East Africa

Exposure to air pollution is associated with a wide range of health effects in humans. In East Africa, as public and governmental interest in the topic is growing, there is also a greater demand for data and evidence on air pollution levels and trends as well as health effects. However, locally-generated evidence on health effects of air pollution in East Africa is limited. To capture the available literature pertaining to East Africa, a scoping review will be carried out to describe the available relevant literature. This scoping review is designed to collect and document available evidence on health effects of air pollution in East Africa to inform researchers, current and potential funders and policymakers on the extent of evidence available and to identify research gaps and opportunities for future research.
