PULSETHREAD: A VERIFICATION-CENTRED MOBILE PLATFORM FOR REAL-TIME BLOOD DONOR MOBILISATION

This paper introduces PulseThread, a deployed mobile platform meant to smooth coordination and trust breakdowns in real-time blood donor mobilisation, particularly in low-resource contexts like Bangladesh. Voluntary non-remunerated donors contribute only about a third of the national demand; the other part is filled through much more informal pathways, such as family arrangements, replacement donations, and professional contributions too. In Bangladesh, the blood supply stays under steady pressure: the country is estimated to require roughly 800,000 to 1,000,000 units of blood each year, but only around a third actually comes from voluntary, non-remunerated donors.Here's where PulseThread comes in; it's a mobile platform that is deployed out in the field, and it targets coordination, as well as those trust problems that appear when a patient's family needs to find someone quickly. A bunch of existing tools basically treat a donor's acceptance, or even a self-reported donation, as the ending point, and that leaves the workflow with gaps. Those gaps enable no-shows, plus they create room for intermediaries who make bold promises about blood, but then do not deliver. PulseThread takes a different angle; it connects each donation with three concrete checkpoints, namely arrival, cross-match, and the donation moment itself. Then, it verifies every step using a single-use QR code that the other party has to show in person atthat exact time.PulseThread also sorta treats mobilisation like it's a shared duty. Any user can look at a request, but the chance to respond is only actually offered to donors who are currently eligible. Everyone else, even if they cannot respond directly, can still forward the request into their own networks. In practice, this moves the spreading effort away from one lone family and toward a broader supporting community. together with its threat model, and the methodology for a planned field study built around the actual live deployment. The deployment shows that a verification- first design is practical, and that it can help bridge the gap between matching a donor online and confirming that a safe donation has truly, genuinely taken place.
