Records Management at the Kenya Railways Corporation

Describes the Kenya Railways Corporation and its current records management practices. Summarizes the results of records management surveys and discusses problems of: records creation, including poor mail management, file classification, indexing systems, layout and work flow, and misfiling; problems with current records, including loss of files, poor file tracking and ineffective re-submit system; problems with non-current records; problems of records disposition; and staffing of registries. Considers the relationship between administrative reforms and records management and how records management could contribute to the administrative reform programme at the Kenya Railways Corporation. Concludes that the reform programme will not achieve its desired effect without embracing a comprehensive records management programme.
