This study replicated an analysis of survey data from five sub-Saharan African countries, investigating the link between education and HIV status. The data were collected through Demographic and Health Surveys, large standardized population-based cluster surveys conducted in many developing countries. This study draws data from Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, and Tanzania collected during the years 2003-2004: Burkina Faso: Standard DHS, 2003; Cameroon: Standard DHS, 2004; Ghana: Standard DHS, 2003; Kenya: Standard DHS, 2003; Tanzania: Standard AIS, 2003-04. The dataset includes a broad range of sociodemographic, attitudinal and behavioral data. In addition, HIV tests were conducted for a random subset of survey respondents. Access to DHS data is restricted to approved users, and for this reason the analysis dataset is not included in this record. Approval for access to these data can be gained though the Measure DHS website (measuredhs.com).
