ABSTRACT Sand play is integral to early childhood education and significantly influences holistic development. Research indicates that sand play may reduce emotional and behavioral difficulties in children by promoting self-expression and regulation (Ifalahma et al., 2023). Despite parental concerns regarding hygiene, ingestion, and environmental cleanliness, sand play enhances children's cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and language development. Grounded in Piaget's constructivist theory and Vygotsky's sociocultural theory, sand play offers a dynamic setting for experiential learning, creativity, and collaboration. This article examines the developmental benefits of sand play across key domains, addresses health and safety considerations, and provides practical recommendations for educators and caregivers. Findings suggest that, when managed appropriately, sand play is a powerful and essential tool for promoting well-rounded development in young children. However, systematic reviews indicate inconsistent associations between sand play and developmental outcomes due to methodological variation (Aljarrah, 2023), highlighting the need for further high-quality research.
