This study explores the relationship between security threats, poverty and inequality in West African countries, with a focus on the ECOWAS region. Using empirical analysis, specifically the PMG/ARDL estimation technique, the research examines how economic deprivation and income disparity contribute to regional instability, insurgencies, and violent conflicts. The findings indicate a strong correlation between high poverty levels and increasing security threats, exacerbated by weak governance, unemployment, and limited access to basic resources. The results suggest that targeted poverty reduction and inclusive economic policies are essential for improving security outcomes in the region. Policy recommendations emphasize the need for enhanced social welfare systems, economic empowerment programs, and coordinated regional security strategies to mitigate these threats effectively.
