Sexual and Reproductive Health Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices among Kordofan University Students, Sudan. An institutional Cross-sectional Descriptive Study

Background: Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) is the ability to have a safe and satisfying sex life and the ability to reproduce. Objectives: An institution-based cross-sectional descriptive study was done to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices of sexual and reproductive health among Kordofan University students, Sudan. Methods: A simple random sampling technique was used to recruit 376 participants. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS version 26.0 and Microsoft Excel. Results: The findings showed that 95% of undergraduate students had heard about family planning. The majority (88.8%) were aware of sexual violence, although only 0.3% reported a personal history of it. A significant association was found between gender and students’ attitudes toward discussing sexual and reproductive health topics, as well as their related practices such as visiting SHRS centers and engaging in premarital sexual intercourse (P < 0.001). There was also a significant relationship between students’ knowledge of reproductive health and their age (P < 0.001). Additionally, more than half (57.4%) agreed that premarital medical examination is very important. Conclusion: Students at Kordofan University show high awareness of (SRH) but limited communication and utilization of related services. Bridging this gap requires gender-responsive, culturally sensitive, and institutionally supported SRH programs to effectively translate knowledge into healthy practices.
