Egypt has a long history of state surveillance that predates the digital age. However, it is under the Sisi regime that Egypt is witnessing some of the most significant changes in public space surveillance. Since rising to power in mid-2013, the Sisi regime has taken steps to expand deployment of surveillance cameras in law and in practice.

This report documents developments in policies and practices of digital surveillance of public space in Egypt under the presidency of Sisi with the purpose of improving understanding of their impacts on human rights.
