Data and Stata code reproducing all tables and figures in the paper. The estimation sample is a balanced panel of 25 African countries observed annually over 2007–2023 (N = 25, T = 17, NT = 425); a 29-country balanced panel without the energy variable is used for robustness.
The package contains the analysis-ready dataset in Stata (.dta) and open CSV formats, the compiled source data (.xlsx), a single do-file reproducing every table in manuscript order, the two manuscript figures, and a README documenting variables, sources, software requirements and reproduction steps.
Variables: CO2 emissions per capita excluding LULUCF, GDP per capita (constant 2015 US$), energy use per capita, trade openness and urban population share from the World Bank World Development Indicators; the Social Capital pillar score from the Legatum Prosperity Index. Estimation uses second-generation panel diagnostics (Pesaran CD, CIPS, bootstrapped Westerlund cointegration), a Mundlak decomposition, fixed effects with Driscoll–Kraay standard errors, panel DOLS, a dynamic fixed-effects error-correction model, and method of moments quantile regression. Software: Stata 19.5 with user-written packages listed in the README.
