This study explores Governor Charles Soludo’s decisive crackdown on fake native doctors in Anambra State, Nigeria: Addressing the alarming rise of ritual-related crimes, including kidnappings and killings facilitated by these fraudulent practitioners. The issue lies in the proliferation of impostors exploiting traditional Igbo spiritual practices to perpetrate heinous crimes under the guise of native therapy, thereby threatening the integrity of Igbo Traditional Religion and endangering societal safety. Despite widespread incidents, a significant gap remains in understanding the socio-religious impact of these crimes and the complicity of fake native doctors. Using a qualitative methodology, this research draws from primary data (interviews and field observations) and secondary data (official reports and media content). These are analyzed through a phenomenological approach to capture the lived experiences and perceptions of those affected. Grounded in Social Disorganization Theory; the study finds that a notable number of Anambra citizens have fallen victim to kidnapping including ritual killings driven by quick wealth-seeking motives enabled by these impostors. The study recommends strengthening governance structures, promoting community vigilance, and launching sensitization campaigns to curb these crimes. It concludes that Soludo’s intervention is crucial for restoring religious integrity, preserving cultural authenticity, and ensuring public safety.
