The Importance of Vital Signs in Early Patient Assessment: A Narrative Review

Vital signs are among the most basic and frequently obtained clinical observations in healthcare. Temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation can provide important information about a patient’s condition. This narrative review discusses the practical importance of vital-sign monitoring, accurate measurement, documentation, patient safety and timely communication, with particular attention to the role of supportive healthcare staff in clinical settings in Nigeria and other African contexts.
