The dataset was created for classifying neighborhoods in South Africa according to 4 neighborhood types:
  • Wealthy neighbourhoods: a combination of the classes suburb, smallholdings, farm
  • Non-wealthy neighbourhoods: combination of the classes township, informal settlements, collective living quarters, village
  • Non-residential neighbourhoods: combination of the classes industrial area, commercial, parks and recreational areas, vacant
  • Background: parts of the land that are not built up
