The State of the Wildlife Economy in Angola

This case study is part of the African Leadership University’s School of Wildlife Conservation (SOWC) research series on the State of the Wildlife Economy in Africa. It examines the current and potential contribution of the wildlife economy in Angola, with a focus on activities that support both biodiversity conservation and socio-economic development. The study highlights opportunities, where applicable, in ecotourism, hunting, fisheries, wildlife trade, wildlife ranching, forest products and carbon finance, while also identifying major data gaps that limit understanding of the full value of wildlife-based activities. The report forms part of a continent-wide initiative to assess the wildlife economy across Africa through country case studies, providing governments, investors, and policymakers with facts and figures to guide decisions. It aims to encourage investment in wildlife as a strategic economic asset, promote innovative and sustainable business models, and raise the profile of conservation as a driver of inclusive growth.
