Tours et détours du kokolampo tandroy

International audience The article questions the practice of the possession to Tandroy, through the evolution of the status of the kokolampo spirit, considered by them as endemic (Androy, South Madagascar). This spirit was threatened at the beginning of the 1970s by the massive arrival of tromba spirits come from the North of the Island by means of migrations. Tandroy indeed is a population of migrants, making of ceaseless travels between their region of origin and the main urban areas of the country. Today, kokolampo and tromba work together within the Tandroy cults of possession. Fieldworks made between 2008 and 2013 allowed me to re-question the place and the social function of theses spirits.Two ethnographic cases can show how the kokolampo seems to take on a double function: that of support of the tradition, in a substitution logic in the ancestral cults, and that of fulcrum in a “civilized future”, built besides on mimesis with the world of the state employees. Besides, the shape of the duality presented by both spirits will be questioned. The relationship which they maintain with the possessed person seems to show a possible reproduction of the Tandroy social system, agnatic and polygamous, and the inscription in paradigm involving relations of filiation and wedding ring. Cet article interroge la pratique de la possession chez les Tandroy, à travers l’évolution du statut d’un esprit nommé kokolampo, considéré par eux comme endémique de l’Androy (sud de Madagascar). Cet esprit de possession s’est vu menacé au tournant des années soixante-dix par l’arrivée massive d’esprits tromba venus du nord par le biais de migrations. Les Tandroy en effet sont de grands migrants, effectuant d’incessants allers et retours entre leur région d’origine et les principaux centres urbains du pays. Aujourd’hui, kokolampo et tromba œuvrent de concert au sein des rituels de possession tandroy, dont l’observation, au cours de terrains effectués entre 2008 et 2013, m’a permis de réinterroger la place et la fonction sociale de ces esprits.Deux cas ethnographiés peuvent montrer comment le kokolampo semble actuellement revêtir une double fonction : celle de la prise en charge de la tradition, dans une logique de substitution aux cultes ancestraux, lignagers, celle de point d’appui à un « devenir civilisé », construit en outre sur un mimétisme avec le monde des fonctionnaires. Par ailleurs, la forme même de la dualité présentée par les deux esprits est questionnée. En outre, le rapport qu’ils entretiennent avec les hommes semble laisser entrevoir une possible reproduction du système social tandroy, agnatique et polygame, et l’inscription dans un paradigme faisant jouer relations de filiation et d’alliance.
