Abstract This dataset contains household-level survey data collected from five counties in Western Kenya (Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga, and Trans Nzoia) to investigate the epidemiology and risk factors of tungiasis (Tunga penetrans infestation). The data were collected as part of a cross-sectional epidemiological survey conducted by the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), Kisumu Centre, between [date range]. The dataset includes 5,876 household observations with comprehensive information on: Environmental and climatic factors: Rainfall, temperature, humidity, drought index, aridity index, NDVI, EVI, land surface temperature, elevation, and soil moisture Socioeconomic characteristics: Household income, education level, occupation, and household size Housing characteristics: Floor type, roof type, and wall material Behavioral factors: Shoe wearing habits, hygiene practices, and treatment-seeking behaviour Livestock ownership: Numbers of dogs, goats, pigs, and poultry Health outcomes: Tungiasis infestation status, severity classification, and household burden Methodology The data were collected through a household-based epidemiological survey across the five counties. Field teams administered structured questionnaires and conducted physical examinations to assess tungiasis infestation status. Environmental and climatic variables were derived from satellite remote sensing data and meteorological records. All personally identifiable information was removed to ensure participant privacy.
