Acute and chronic child undernutrition is a continuous problem in Ethiopia. Therefore, this study was initiated to compare the prevalence of underweight and its associated factors among children in the Kuyu district Northern Oromia, Ethiopia.
The prevalence of underweight among children in household food security and insecurity was 30.9% and 36.7%, respectively.
Low wealth status, poor dietary intake and lack of breastfeeding for two years were factors associated with underweight children in household food security.
However, lack of antenatal care visits and poor dietary intake were other independent variables associated with underweight children in household food insecurity.
Therefore, this study provides information by policymakers in a nation regarding malnutrition and food insecurity status.
