This dataset is part of a research project on spatial inequality in Water Energy Food (WEF) security (sarva.saeon.ac.za), the implications on public health and the impacts of climate change. This dataset contains data on water, energy and food security on a municipal level (local and metropolitan municipalities, n=213) for South Africa. Security is defined here as good availability, accessibility, affordability and acceptability (“4A’s”) of each of the resources. The final dataset thus gives municipal scores from 0-1 for twelve domains (each a combination of a resource ( i.e., water, energy and food) and a security dimension (i.e., the 4A’s)). The dataset accompanies a scientific publication titled “A framework for spatially quantifying household-level Water-Energy-Food security: application to South Africa”, which is still to be published. Intermediate datasets at household level or per security dimension include raw variables, normalised and/or aggregated variables. For a complete overview of the raw data, steps in data wrangling and calculations, see the metadata document included in the data download.
