This file contains national-level data concerning female/male differentials over a range of demographic and socioeconomic variables for each of 120 developing countries. Breakdowns by age and urban/rural residence are frequently included. Data were drawn primarily from censuses and reliable surveys, and constitute the most recently available information at the time of collection. The 120 countries included in the file are all recipients of Agency for International Development aid. There are data for 19 countries from Asia/Pacific, 21 from Latin America/Caribbean, 41 from Sub-Saharan Africa, 15 from the Near East/North Africa, two from North America, 21 from Europe, and the Soviet Union. Datasets: DS1: Dataset Women in Development Series This hierarchical dataset contains seven record types sorted by table, country, and year. There are 70,529 records in all. All persons covered by the 1970 round of censuses and/or the most recent census or survey in 120 countries in the following regions: Asia/Pacific, Latin America/Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Near East/North Africa, North America, Europe, and the Soviet Union.
