YOUTHBUS: Youth Groups for Sustainable Development: Lessons from the Ethiopian Model 2023

The project studies youth business groups in northern Ethiopia. The groups were established by the government to create employment for landless and near-landless rural youth. The youth business groups are formal businesses with their own bylaws and an elected board. They must prepare a business plan approved by local authorities and submit accounts for auditing. Following two years of civil war in Tigray, a follow-up survey was carried out in 2023 to assess how the war affected the youth business groups, their members, and members' families, as well as members' social and economic preferences and trust. This study consists of four datasets: MemberSurvey, GroupLevelSurvey, Timepref and riskpref. The first two include questions at the individual and group level, and the last two variables from experiments.
