This dataset contains spawning and family production records generated during the 2025 breeding cycle of the GIANT Generation 18 (G18) selective breeding program for Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) conducted at the Abbassa Research Facility, Egypt. The dataset documents controlled mating and family production activities undertaken to establish the next generation of genetically improved tilapia.
Data were collected in 2025 and include information on broodstock identification, mating combinations, spawning events, family assignment, and offspring production. The breeding population consisted of selected G18 broodstock representing the target nucleus breeding population of the Abbassa GIANT improvement program.
The objective of the dataset is to support pedigree management, family tracking, genetic evaluation, broodstock selection, and the development of subsequent generations within the selective breeding program. The dataset serves as a primary source for monitoring reproductive performance and maintaining genetic diversity in the breeding population. Controlled mating resulted in the production of 26 families, which form the initial family batch for the next generation of the selective breeding program. Type: Dataset; Sub-type(s): Observation data
