A high resolution urban and rural settlement map of Africa

This study introduces a high-resolution rural-urban maps for Africa by integrating land cover and human settlement data using deep learning. The model, based on the DeepLabV3 architecture, classifies land into urban, rural, and non-settlement areas at a 10-meter resolution, improving accuracy in distinguishing these regions. This enhanced rural-urban map provides valuable insights to support more informed decisions for urban planning, sustainable development, and environmental management in Africa.
