Drones are fast emerging as a potential solution to the problems with healthcare access in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Various studies have reported drone use in some aspects of healthcare in a few countries in SSA. However, it is uncertain the extent to which drones have been used in healthcare in the region, and whether their uses can be extended to other areas such as non-communicable diseases (NCDs). This protocol is for a scoping review to map out the evidence of drone use in SSA, descriptively presenting their reported outcomes and implementation challenges, as well as exploring the potential for scaling it up to other healthcare areas such as NCDs.
