The main objective of this paper was to provide an overview of the current state of e-waste management in Kenya. The study constitutes literature reviews of electronic articles published since the year 2011, sourced from journals, media and organizational websites. The review examined various aspects of e-waste management such as product recovery, material recovery, energy recovery, and safe disposal practices. Besides highlighting the extent of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), the paper outlines the risks presented by unregulated and improper disposal of e-waste and provides recommendations for improving e-waste management in Kenya. The recommendations from the study includes the involvement of the informal sector and other stakeholders in raising awareness of the risks associated with rudimentary e-waste treatment, proposing policy adjustments that considers wide stakeholder participation, and introduction of training programs in technical colleges and universities specifically addressing the issue of WEEE. It further proposes initiatives both at the national and county levels that would foster discussions and debates on e-waste menace with a view of minimizing adverse effects on humans and the environment. This is expected to help Kenya in the advancement of several goals including Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), vision 2030, and meet its constitutional obligations.
