This roadmap outlines comprehensive, strategic steps for developing Kenya’s Soil Information System (KenSIS) to improve decision-making around agricultural practices, ensure optimised sustainable land use, and address key soil health issues. It provides insights from the “Kenya Soil Information System: Roadmap Development Workshop” held in March 2025 in Nairobi, organised by Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research organization (KALRO) and Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD), and facilitated by ISRIC-World Soil Information and CABI, with funding from ISRIC-World Soil Information. Participants from various sectors addressed common data and capacity challenges and discussed long-term financial sustainability options for KenSIS. The workshop reviewed key components of the SIS framework that are crucial for the success of KenSIS. The roadmap includes an overview of each component, addressing available information, gaps, and recommendations that the KenSIS project team might consider.
