Adoption Rates and Yield Variability Analysis of an App-based Climate Information Service Platform Among Farmers in Central Uganda:Context

This study explores the adoption rates of an app-based climate information service platform among Ugandan farmers in central Uganda and analyzes its impact on crop yields. A qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews with 50 randomly selected farmers who used the climate information service platform over a period from to . Data collection involved collecting detailed feedback on their experiences and perceptions, as well as analysing yield data. A significant proportion (78%) of farmers reported an increase in crop yields after using the app-based climate information service platform. However, there was considerable variability in yield improvements across different farming practices and geographical locations. The findings suggest that while the app can be a valuable tool for improving agricultural productivity, its effectiveness may depend on local conditions and farmer-specific factors such as soil quality and irrigation methods. Farmers should be provided with tailored recommendations based on their specific farming practices to maximise yield improvements. Future research could explore further integration of satellite imagery into the app to enhance accuracy.
