AfCFTA Judgment-Enforcement Data Hub: Cross-Border Contracts, Trade Costs, and Legal Harmonisation in Africa

This Open Science Framework project curates and disseminates the full research programme on cross-border judgment enforcement under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). It hosts the flagship manuscript “Cross-Border Recognition and Enforcement of Private-Sector Judgments under AfCFTA: A Legal and Institutional Analysis Using Secondary Data,” together with all replication files: the 54-state cost-to-claim dataset extracted from the World Bank Doing Business 2020 “Enforcing Contracts” module, the four-step welfare-loss calculation sheet, figure code, and high-resolution maps. Future deliverables—including country case-study briefs, policy white papers, and updated datasets integrating Business Ready indicators—will be version-controlled here to ensure methodological transparency and long-term accessibility. By uniting doctrinal analysis, institutional metrics, and transaction-cost modelling, the project equips scholars, policymakers, and practitioners with open evidence on how legal frictions silently tax intra-African trade and how harmonised enforcement could unlock billions in welfare gains.
