African Union Sanction Dataset

This dataset has been constructed to examine patterns in the African Union’s (AU) responses to coups d’état across the African continent. The dataset covers the period from 2008 to 2025. It aims to systematically identify the conditions under which the AU imposes sanctions following a coup, the factors associated with their imposition and lifting, and the broader political context in which these decisions are made.
