Afrobarometer: Round I Survey of Zambia, November-December 2000 Archival Version

The Afrobarometer project assesses attitudes toward democracy, markets, and civil society in several sub-Saharan African nations. This survey of Zambia recorded Zambian citizens' opinions aboutdifferent aspects of government in Zambia, including attitudes toward political life and membership in organizations, the meaning of the word "democracy," trustworthiness of the government, and the responsibility of the government toward its citizens, as well as topics such as the economy, health services, and price stability. Those surveyed were queried about their food, income, and health care needs, and were asked if they trusted the government, army, police, or elected officials. Additional data were gathered on respondent views on corruption and political freedom, and their ratings of government performance on issues such as electricity, prices, health care, and housing. Background information on respondents includes gender, age, and number of adults in each household. Multistage, clustered, random probability sampling design.
