Agentivity and Causation: Data from Hare "This paper represents part of an investigation into the nature of agentivity and its status as a universal syntactic and semantic category. We will investigate certain semantic restrictions on eligibility for subject of a transitive verb in Hare, a Mackenzie Valley Athapaskan language, and the semantic significance of the grammatical mechanism used to attribute causal function to one class of quasi-agents which are ineligible for transitive subject status. Finally I will suggest that these data constitute evidence for a multifactoral prototype definition of transitivity." ca.12 pp. Comments: Draft: Not for citation. Comments and criticisms welcome.
