"This dataset contains empirically collected water quality data from four rural communities; Ibiaku Uruan, Mbiakong, Ntak Inyang, and Nwaniba located in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The dataset comprises 150 water samples obtained from rivers, hand-dug wells, and boreholes commonly used for domestic water supply. Measured parameters include physicochemical indicators (pH, turbidity, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen, and nitrate), microbial indicators (total coliform and Escherichia coli quantified using the Most Probable Number method), and environmental variables (rainfall preceding sampling and proximity to waste disposal sites). In addition to raw measurements, the dataset includes derived variables used for analytical modeling, such as scaled feature values and a composite Water Safety Risk Index (WSRI). The data are suitable for applications in water quality assessment, environmental health studies, and supervised machine learning tasks including classification, feature importance analysis, and risk stratification. This dataset supports reproducible research on rural drinking water safety and provides a reference resource for data-driven water risk assessment in data-constrained settings."
