An Analysis of Manga Lexical Shift Among Manga Speakers in Hadejia Emirate, Jigawa State, Nigeria

This study examines Manga lexical shift among Manga speakers in Hadejia Emirate. The aim of the research is to explore the lexical shift and social factors responsible of Manga lexical loss and lexical borrowing leads Manga native speakers to speak Hausa language. Furthermore, the research randomly selected Fifty (50) informants were randomly to participate in this study, thirty (30) males and twenty (20) female. Adults aged between thirty (30) and sixty (60), while children aged between seven (7) and fifteen (15), who are both Manga bilinguals were interviewed with the aid of 40 word list comprising Home and farm items. The paper therefore, adopts Communication Accommodation Theory (CAT) propounded by Giles (1973). Also, the discussions of findings are presented and analyzed.
