An intersectional climate risk framework: understanding gendered climate vulnerability in South Africa

We developed an intersectional climate risk framework to demonstrate how an individual’s vulnerability to climate hazards and exposure is shaped by the unique combination of intersecting traits that affect one’s sensitivity and adaptive capacity. This framework can be used for integrating gender and intersectionality into climate risk assessments in order to understand vulnerability, and to inform the design and implementation of equitable adaptation responses.
