Analogue-based synthetic data generation to inform hydrological models: demonstration and application to the Volta River Basin in West Africa

All datasets in this repository are either used by or generated with the method described in the associated paper “Analogue-based synthetic data generation to inform hydrological models: demonstration and application to the Volta River Basin in West Africa”, currently under review. The repository contains two ZIP archives. All files are provided in NetCDF format. The first archive, kNN_data, contains all input data and outputs of the analogue-based (kNN) method. The input folder stores the datasets required to generate synthetic images. The hindcast folder contains the results of the hindcast experiment. The for_mHM folder contains the results of the validation experiment formatted for use in mHM. Variable naming follows: pre for total daily precipitation, tmax for daily maximum temperature, and tmin for daily minimum temperature. Files ending with _mhm correspond to datasets specifically prepared for mHM. The second archive, mHM_data, contains all datasets used for the mHM hydrological model experiments. This includes the model input data, validation results using only real datasets, real datasets combined with synthetic evapotranspiration, and only synthetic datasets, as well as hindcast results obtained using only synthetic datasets. All details on data processing and experimental design are provided in the associated paper.
