This repository contains annual Electricity Access Rate (EAR) estimates for Africa from 2000 to 2021 at administrative levels 0, 1, and 2. The dataset was generated using harmonized nighttime luminosity (NTL) data and gridded population datasets at 1 km² spatial resolution.

  • Adm2/Second-order administrative-level EAR estimates

Dataset Fields

  • Country_Name – Country name
  • Adm1_Name – First-order administrative region
  • Adm2_Name – Second-order administrative region
  • Year – Observation year
  • EAR – Estimated electricity access rate (%)
  • TotPop – Total population within the administrative unit

Geospatial Boundaries
Administrative boundaries are based on GADM version 4.1 boundary definitions. The EAR tables may be joined to corresponding polygon boundary shapefiles using the administrative identifier fields for geospatial visualization and analysis in GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
