Artificial Intelligence as Educational Management Tool: Fulcrum for Maintenance of Ethical and Philosophical Principles in Teaching and Learning

Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate application of Artificial Intelligence Educational Management tools as fulcrum for maintenance of ethical and philosophical standards in teaching and learning. Four purposes of study and four research questions guided the study. One of which include: To what extent does AI as Educational Management tool serve as an aid in maintenance of ethical and philosophical principles in teaching process? Two null hypotheses were also tested at 0.05 alpha level of significance. Descriptive design was adopted for the study. The population is 2,033 comprising of 183 management staff and 850 lecturers in the two federal and state Universities in Kwara state. Purposive and simple random sampling techniques were adopted to select 366 respondents as sample. Instrument for the Study of Artificial Intelligence as Educational Management Tool: Fulcrum for Maintenance of Ethical and Philosophical Principles in Teaching and Learning (ISAIEMT-FMEPDTL) was developed and used for data collection. The instrument was validated by two experts and reliability test in a pilot Study yielded an overall coefficient value of 0.87. Data was collected using Research Assistants. With the aid of collected data, Research questions were analyzed with Mean and standard Deviation, while null hypotheses were tested with Z – test statistics at 0.05 alpha level of significance. Result show that Artificial Intelligence as Educational Management tool serve as instrument for the maintenance of ethical and philosophical principles in teaching process to a low extent. Subsequently there is no significant difference in the mean score ratings of the Management staff and Academic staff on the result. The finding also reveal that AI as Educational Management tool serve as instrument for maintenance of ethical and philosophical principles in learning process to a low extent. However, there is no significant difference between the mean ratings of the two categories of respondents on the result. Based on the findings the research recommended that Teaching and learning process should not wholly rely on Artificial Intelligence, rather human interactions between teachers and learners is ideal for the maintenance of ethical and philosophical principles. Conclusion of the study was also made.
