Abstract: Background: Agriculture is undergoing an “Agriculture 4.0” transformation driven by artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and Internet of Things (IoT). While these technologies promise efficiency, sustainability, and food security, they also raise profound ethical, cultural, and theological questions. Particularly in the Global South, governance frameworks risk privileging technocratic control over stewardship, equity, and community values. Objectives & Research Questions: This study aims to integrate Biblical stewardship with contemporary frameworks in Responsible Innovation (RI) and Value-Sensitive Design (VSD). It addresses three guiding research questions: (RQ1) How does AI reshape human stewardship of land and food systems? (RQ2) What ethical and spiritual risks emerge when intelligent agriculture displaces traditional practices? (RQ3) How can governance frameworks embed principles of stewardship, equity, and justice in AI-driven agriculture? Methodology: An interdisciplinary, multi-method approach was adopted, combining (i) a systematic literature review of Q1/Q2 scholarship, (ii) comparative policy analysis of FAO, World Bank, and AU reports, (iii) Natural Language Processing (NLP)-assisted meta-synthesis of discourse, (iv) theological hermeneutics of stewardship texts, and (v) case illustrations from Israel (precision irrigation), China (AI-enabled drone farming), and Africa (mobile advisory services). Results: Findings reveal that AI can enhance stewardship through precision, resource efficiency, and farmer empowerment but also risks exacerbating inequalities, eroding cultural knowledge, and fostering dependency on proprietary platforms. The integration of RI, VSD, and stewardship produced a novel conceptual model linking system-level governance with farmer-centered design. Conclusion & Implications: Embedding theological stewardship within responsible innovation offers actionable guardrails—farmer-led councils, data rights protections, transparency thresholds, and adaptive governance—that can align AI with sustainability, justice, and spiritual care for creation. Ethically aligned AI can transform agriculture into a ministry of care, ensuring innovation serves households, communities, and creation rather than distant technocratic interests.
