Abstract As artificial intelligence (AI) and related technologies gain global traction, the workforce in developing countries often faces a gap in requisite skills. This study investigates the demand for AI-related academic programs and skill sets in Botswana based on a survey of industry stakeholders. Key findings highlight significant gaps in AI expertise, including data analytics, governance, and IoT device integration. The results underscore the need for foundational engineering education, partnerships between academia and industry, and practical training opportunities to align with the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This research offers critical insights into curriculum development to bridge skills gaps and foster sustainable development in emerging economies.
