This dataset maps disclosed and manually identified investment participation by Asia- and Middle East-headquartered venture capital investors in African startups.
The dataset was initially compiled in November 2024 and updated in May 2026 to include additional investment records from late 2024, 2025, and early 2026. Each row represents an investor-company investment record, not necessarily a unique funding round. Where multiple Asia- or Middle East-headquartered investors participated in the same round, each investor may appear as a separate record.
The dataset includes information on investor name, investor country, portfolio company name, country of investment, total disclosed round size where available, investment year, sector, funding round, and contextual notes. It is intended to support exploratory research and ecosystem analysis on cross-regional venture capital flows between Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
The dataset was compiled through secondary research using venture industry databases, public funding announcements, company and investor websites, technology and venture capital media, ecosystem reports, and professional market research. It was also informed by conversations with founders, investors, and ecosystem stakeholders in the author’s capacity as a venture capital professional. No confidential or non-public information has been intentionally included. Each row in this dataset represents an investor-company investment record, not necessarily a unique funding round. Where multiple Asia- or Middle East-headquartered investors participated in the same round, the same company or round may appear more than once.
Total Round Size refers to the disclosed size of the full funding round where available. It does not represent the amount invested by the specific fund listed in each row.
The dataset was manually compiled from public sources, venture industry databases, ecosystem research, and professional market knowledge. It should be used for exploratory research and ecosystem analysis, not as a definitive record of all Asia and Middle East VC activity in Africa.
