ASSESSING TEACHERS' AND STUDENTS' ATTITUDE, APPROACH AND SKILLS TOWARDS GEOGRAPHY EDUCATION IN LOKOJA METROPOLIS, KOGI STATE NIGERIA

Social science is often distinguished from other domains of human culture by its progressive nature, in contrast to art, religion, philosophy, morality and politics, there exist clear standards or normative criteria for identifying improvement and advances in science The study actually involved Teachers and Students’ Attitude, Approach and Skill toward Teaching of Geography in Lokoja Metropolis, Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive research design and was conducted in Lokoja local government Area of Kogi state. The targeted population was all the students and teachers found in the aforementioned Local Government Area. The instrument used for data collection was questionnaire for the students and teachers. Simply frequency count and percentage were used to answer the research questions. It was discovered that students had much interest in learning Geography and their teachers’ attitude towards teaching the subject influenced the students positively in the learning subject. The researcher therefore recommended that Students’ interest should be sustained by the teacher via constant motivation and reinforcement in the classroom and also the school administrators should ensure that the teachers manifest a good attitude towards their students in teaching Geography as this would go a long way in influencing the attitude of the students positively towards the subject.
