Potable and accessible drinking water is essential means of improving public health. The portability of drinking water is affected by bacteriological and physico- chemical parameters. The objective of this study was to assess the bacteriological and physicochemical status of drinking water collected from Munessa Woreda. A total of 62 water samples were systematic collected from five different water sources followed by bacteriological analysis applying membrane filtration method and analysis of various physico- chemical parameters. The results indicated that bacteriological analysis, 100% and 93.55% of the water samples were found to harbor hygiene obtained through observation might be the main factors for the Coliform bacteria numbers greater than National and International standards respectively. In case of physicochemical parameters of all water sources in Munessa Woreda were found within and below the range of National and International standards. However, Turbidity (UHDW and UR), Temperature (PSWDS,UHDW, UR and TW)and PH is Unprotected spring on Spotof the water samples were found above permissible standards. So, majority of the drinking water sources (59.7%) had unacceptable quality or were grossly polluted particularly unprotected hand dug well and unprotected river. Based on the results of the study, the researchers recommend that all stockholder should have to aware Proper sanitation management, regular monitoring and maintenance of water sources, proper water disinfections and regular community health education and awareness creation should be encouraged to improve the bacteriological and physicochemical parameters of the drinking water sources of the area for public health. 4
