Abstract Augustamnica was the name of a province in the Eastern Roman Empire, created in 341 CE and lasting until the Arab conquest of Egypt in 641. For the most part of its existence, it encompassed the eastern half of the Egyptian Delta. Its genesis was a result of the continuous administrative reorganization of the former Roman province of Egypt (Aegyptus) in the fourth century, which involved a series of experimental subdivisions of the old province into two, three, or four smaller provinces.
