This study was setout to investigate the impact of CGIAR related improved maize variety adoption on smallholder farmers’ welfare measured in per capita consumption expenditure and kilocalorie intake. DNA finger printed data was used from 500 maize producers. Based on the DNA finger printed data result, small holder maize producer households were categorized in to two groups as CGIAR related improved maize variety adopters and non-adopters. Endogeneity Switching Regression Model was used to see the effect of CGIAR related improved maize variety adoption on the outcome variables (per capita consumption expenditure and per capita calorie intake). The study result reveals that adoption of CGIAR related improved maize variety has significant impact on per capita consumption expenditure, but inversely related with per capita calorie intake. On the other hand, CGIAR related improved maize variety adoption has improved small holder maize producers’ income, but adversely related with household food security
