<b>Sustaining Africa's Public Health Genomics and Bioinformatics Workforce: Challenges and Opportunities</b>

The integration of genomics and bioinformatics into public health requires a skilled workforce capable of delivering with speed, quality, scale, adaptability, and resilience. While Africa has made progress in expanding this workforce, several challenges threaten workforce retention and long-term sustainability. Drawing from our experiences and observations across the continent, we identify key gaps and opportunities that are essential for sustaining the public health genomics and bioinformatics workforce in Africa (Fig. 2 – summary and Table 1 – detailed information). These barriers to sustainability include challenges in education and training, communication and advocacy, infrastructure and supply chain, technical capacity, motivation, financial support, policy and legislation, ethics, and surveillance, research, and development. These challenges need to be addressed at various levels by individuals, work institutes, governments (including ethics committees, regulatory agencies, and legal departments), public and private partners, and funding agencies.
