Bibliometric landscape of antimicrobial resistance research in Tanzania and Kenya

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major global health threat, with low- and middle-income countries such as Tanzania and Kenya facing heightened risks due to fragile health systems, limited laboratory capacity, and widespread antimicrobial use in both human and animal sectors. The Global Action Plan (2015) spurred the development of National Action Plans (NAPs), with Tanzania adopting its first in 2017 and a revised version in 2022, and Kenya launching its first NAP in 2017 followed by a second phase in 2023, both grounded in the One Health framework. While AMR research in both countries has expanded, there remains a lack of systematic mapping of research activities against national NAP priorities. This review therefore systematically maps existing research, identifies key gaps, and provides an evidence base to guide research prioritisation and future investments.
