Challenges in Linguistic Research on African Languages: A Case Study of Nigerian Languages

Abstract

With a particular focus on Nigerian languages, this paper thoroughly examines the several issues that arise while conducting linguistic research on African languages. Using information from journal articles and reports, the study looks at issues like underfunding, poor recordkeeping, colonialism's legacy, and the dominance of English in official situations. The report looks at how these challenges affect the preservation of indigenous languages in Nigeria as well as the country's linguistic diversity. Based on the study's findings, recommendations are made for improving research projects and preserving Nigeria's language heritage.
